Standard First Aid & CPR C Training

The Standard First Aid with CPR C program provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Standard First Aid incorporates everything in Emergency First Aid and adds more in-depth training for serious injuries and medical emergencies. Recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB), this award is widely used in workplaces, schools, camps, aquatic settings, and by the general public.

Course Content

  • Legal implications of providing first aid
  • Spinal, bone, joint, chest, and head injuries
  • Heat- and cold-related emergencies
  • Medical conditions including diabetic emergencies, seizures, poisoning, and stress-related emergencies
  • Shock, heart attack, angina, stroke / TIA
  • Includes CPR-C and AED training

At-a-Glance: Skills You Will Learn

  • Two-rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants on a manikin with AED use
  • Recognition and care of suspected spinal injuries on land
  • Recognition and care of heat-related and cold-related emergencies
  • Recognition and care of bone, joint, chest, and head injuries
  • Recognition and care of seizures, diabetic emergencies, and poisoning
  • Understanding the effects of stress on victims, rescuers, and bystanders

Prerequisite

None. Open to the general public and workplace participants.

Candidate Recognition

Successful candidates receive a Lifesaving Society certification card.

Required Reference Material

Canadian First Aid Manual or Canadian Lifesaving Manual (provided by some affiliates or available for purchase).

Recertification

Current Standard First Aid (SFA) holders may recertify once within 3 years by completing a Lifesaving Society-recognized SFA Recertification course. Thereafter, a full course must be taken again. Holders of certificates from other agencies must recertify only with their original agency.
