Emergency First Aid is for people who want a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries.
Skills include: victim assessment, CPR, choking, bleeding control, heart attack, stroke, and shock management.
Includes CPR-B certification.
Recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB).
This program is not restricted to aquatic candidates and is widely used in workplaces, camps, playgrounds, and the general public.

At-a-Glance: Skills You Will Learn
- Demonstrate an understanding of the goals of first aid.
- Understand the legal implications of providing first aid treatment.
- Apply universal precautions including barrier devices, hand washing, and gloves.
- Understand anatomy and physiology of the ABC priorities.
- Primary assessment: scene survey, LOC, airway, breathing, circulation, major bleeding, mechanism of injury.
- Secondary assessment: vital signs, head-to-toe exam, medical history.
- One-rescuer CPR (adult, child, infant) and AED use.
- Treat choking (conscious and unconscious victims, including special cases like pregnancy and obesity).
- Direct bystanders to activate EMS effectively.
- Recognize and care for respiratory emergencies: hyperventilation, asthma.
- Recognize and care for cardiovascular emergencies: shock, heart attack, angina, external bleeding, stroke/TIA.
- Recognize and care for trauma: abdominal, burn, and facial injuries.
- Care for unconscious victims, including fainting.
