National Lifeguard Pool
National Lifeguard Pool is Canada’s professional lifeguard standard for swimming pool environments. This course is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills, and fitness required by lifeguards, with a strong emphasis on effective safety supervision, lifeguarding principles and practices, and sound decision-making in pool emergencies.

Details
- Certification: Lifesaving Society – National Lifeguard Pool
- Course Time: 40 hours total
- Time Breakdown: 16 hours classroom + 24 hours water
- Prerequisites: Minimum 15 years of age, Bronze Cross, and Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid or Standard First Aid from an approved agency
- Instruction & Certification: Current National Lifeguard Instructors who hold NL Pool teach and evaluate most items, but only current National Lifeguard Examiners who hold NL Pool may certify candidates
- Currency: National Lifeguard certifications are considered current for 24 months from the certification date

- Candidate Recognition: National Lifeguard certification card
At-a-Glance: What This Course Covers
- Lifeguarding theory and practice based on National Lifeguard standards and core reference material
- Pool facility analysis, including environmental hazards and how facility features affect supervision
- Use of buoyant and non-buoyant rescue aids appropriate for supervised pool environments
- Entries, removals, rescue drill, underwater swim, object recovery, sprint challenge, and endurance challenge
- Lifeguard communication, positioning, rotation, scanning, observation, prevention, and intervention
- Missing person procedures and specialized rescue techniques for specific pool features and situations
- Management of distressed, drowning, submerged non-breathing, spinal-injured, and injured victims
- Single-lifeguard and lifeguard team emergency response situations
Any reschedule or cancellation will incur a $15 pool booking rescheduling/cancellation fee.
