Private, adaptive and inclusive swimming instruction designed around each swimmer's comfort, abilities, communication preferences, goals and pace.
At Youssef Razzouk's Aquatic Leadership Training, our Adaptive & Inclusive Swim Program provides individualized swimming instruction for autistic children, neurodivergent swimmers and swimmers who may benefit from a more flexible and personalized approach.
Lessons can be adjusted to the swimmer's comfort, communication style, abilities, goals and pace.
Our focus is on developing water safety, confidence, comfort, independence and swimming ability.
Some swimmers may need additional time, repetition or gradual exposure before becoming comfortable with certain swimming skills or aspects of the pool environment.
Developing comfort entering and exiting the pool safely.
Gradually becoming comfortable with water around the face, head and ears.
Building body awareness and confidence while learning front and back floating.
Introducing underwater skills gradually and at an appropriate pace.
Breaking swimming movements into smaller, manageable steps.
Developing confidence and safety awareness before progressing into deeper water.
One-on-one lessons allow the instructor to focus on one swimmer instead of managing an entire group.
This gives us greater flexibility to:
As confidence develops, the swimmer can gradually work toward completing more water-safety and swimming skills independently.
Some neurodivergent swimmers may experience water, sound, touch, movement or the pool environment differently.
Where appropriate, lessons may use:
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to tell us about the swimmer before the first lesson.
Helpful information may include:
The first session can help the instructor understand:
From there, instruction can progress according to the swimmer's individual needs and abilities.
Progress may look different for every swimmer.
For one swimmer, progress may begin with simply entering the pool comfortably.
Another swimmer may be working toward independent floating and recovery.
Another may be developing kicking, breathing and independent swimming.
More experienced swimmers may work on stroke technique, endurance and deep-water confidence.
The objective is meaningful progress for the individual swimmer.
Our Adaptive & Inclusive private swimming lessons may be appropriate for:
The swimmer does not need to know how to swim before starting.
Lessons can begin with basic water orientation, safe entry and exit, breathing, floating and other foundational water-safety skills before progressing toward independent swimming.
A focused one-on-one session with time for gradual skill development, repetition, water-safety practice and individualized instruction.
